SEMINAR ON GENDER SENSITIVITY AND VAWC Among LUPONG TAGAPAMAYAPA MEMBER, KAGAWAD FOR PEACE & ORDER and Chief of Barangay TANOD of indang, cavite

The College of Criminal Justice Thru It’s 7k Advocacy – Batas Project in Collaboration with Gender and Development Resource Center conducted A Seminar on Gender Sensitivity and R.A. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004) on March 20, 2017 at the International House 2, Cavite State University.

Dr. Nelia C. Cresino, Director, Gender and Development oriented the participants on Sex and Gender Roles, Agents of Gender Socialization and Gender Issues. Moreover, Ms. Susan G. Tan, GAD Chair for Extension discussed Republic Act No. 9262 otherwise known as Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004.

Dr. Cresino also presented the structure of the GAD Resource Center and sought suggestions on the services they would expect as stakeholders. The suggested services were conduct of trainings/seminars on GAD, GAD Related Laws and Livelihood to equip them in the performance of their job as Kagawad, Tanod and Lupong Tagapayapa.

INDANG WATER DISTRICT SPONSORED A GENDER SENSITIVITY TRAINING AMONG EMPLOYEES

The Indang Water District sponsored a Gender Sensitivity Training for their employees on January 30, 2016 at the MNM Building, Indang Water District, Indang, Cavite.

Dr. Nelia C. Cresino started her discussion on the orientation on sex and gender, gender roles, and gender issues. Activity on the typical roles, characteristics, values, attitudes and activities of men and women was also done.

A video presentation of “Impossible Dream” was also presented for better understanding of the gender division of labor and gender issues.

Furthermore, the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 (RA 9262) and Anti- Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 (RA 7877) were also discussed.

An activity on identification of gender issues was also done. Among the gender issues identified at home and in the workplace were as follows:

Home

  • men are dominant in decision making,
  • women do most of the household chores,
  • budgeting,
  • infidelity issues on men are more acceptable in the society, and
  • socialization / peer/ relaxation.

WORK

  • no separate comfort room for women and men,
  • less representation of women in the field
  • women usually raise issues on water, and
  • men decide on water services.

The program ended with the community song “Ako ay Isang Babae”. The training was attended by 11 females and 20 males or a total of 31 employees of indang water district.
