Three alumni from the Graduate School and Open Learning College (GSOLC) were recently recognized internationally for their excellence in their respective fields of profession.

Dr. Eleuterio “Ely” F. Timbol Jr., who earned his PhD in Education major in Educational Management, was one of the 54 public school teachers in the State of New York who received the Governor’s Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award as a recognition for their exemplary teaching and dedication to student’s success announced by Governor Kathy Hochul on 15 June 2022.

Dr. Timbol served as a high school teacher and Mathematics Coordinator in the Philippines for five (5) years before spending his 19-year teaching career in the USA. He is now the Math Lead Teacher at the High School for Law Enforcement and Public Safety in Jamaica, Queens, New York. In 2015, he also received the Americas’ Finest Teacher Award accorded by the Association of Filipino Teachers in America (AFTA).

Meanwhile, two other alumni from GS-OLC were also acknowledged for their excellence in research and outstanding leadership during the 2nd United Federation of Filipino-American Educators (UNIFFIED Multi-Disciplinary Research Conference International held in New York City, USA on July 7-9, 2022.

Dr. Aireen Lisama-Arbis, a PhD in Education major in Educational Management graduate at CvSU, was awarded as 2nd Best Research Presenter for her study titled “Organizational Commitment, Job and Personal Related Factors, and Turnover Intention of Teachers in Cavite, Philippines”. The said paper also got the 3rd Best Research Paper award. She was also accorded the Outstanding Leadership in Education Award during the conference.

On the other hand, Dr. Christopher Domagtoy Galpa, who earned the same PhD degree in CvSU, was honored with the Outstanding Leadership in Community Service Award at the said event. His research, “Organizational Culture, Leadership Styles, and Job Performance of Administrators in Local Government-Assisted City Colleges in Cavite, Philippines”, was hailed as the 2nd Best Research Paper and him being the 3rd Best Research Presenter.
