One Day Training-Workshop on Trafficking in Person
The College of Criminal Justice thru it’s &K Advocacy –BATAS Project in collaboration with the Cavite State Univerity GAD Resource Center and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training Program (OP-DAT) conducted a one (1) day training-workshop on Trafficking in Person to the different LGU’s of the Municipality of Indang on January 11, 2017 at SM Rolle Hall.
The training-workshop aimed to create awarenes of the participants on the salient features of R.A. 10364, otherwise known as the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012 and equip the participants with the necessary mechanisms to protect and support trafficked persons.
Mr. Felix Z. Camerino, Jr., Assistant Legal Advisor of the US-DOJ, OPDAT, US Embassy-Manila explained the best practices in investigation of trafficking in person cases and procedure in gathering evidence, rescuing victims and filing trafficking in person cases to ensure that the case filed will prosper and not be dismissed due to technicality. Emphasis was given on gender sensitivity in handling victims of trafficking in persons.
Participants were divided into 5 groups and each was given a scenario and instructed to identify if trafficking in person exists, what evidences will be gathered and how the case will be filed in court.
A primer on RA 9208, Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended by RA 10364 (Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012) was distributed to the 36 Barangay Captains and copy eacj to the following: LGUs-MWSD, DILG, PNP and CvSU GAD Resource Center.
