Cavite State University (CvSU) spearheaded by the College of Education (CEd)
welcomed the Pre-Service Student Teachers from Thailand and Indonesia, 15 January.
This is already the 7 th Batch of Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange project, which
CvSU is participating for the first time with more than 80 different universities from the
Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand that started last January 8 and will end
on February 15, 2019. However, the University opted to commence the program from
January 14 to February 12, 2019.
In her speech, Dr. Cecilia B. Banaag, CEd dean, emphasized the role of the
university in participating in this Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast
Asia (SEA-Teacher Project).
SEA-Teacher Project came about in October 2014 when the Southeast Asian
Ministers of Education through the SEAMEO Council adopted the SEAMEO Education
Agenda or the seven priority areas for SEAMEO to work together to improve quality
education in Southeast Asia. “Revitalizing Teacher Education” is one of the priority
areas in achieving quality education for the region. In order to fulfill this mandate, the
SEAMEO Secretariat has initiated this project, which aims to provide opportunity for
pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching
experiences (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia.
Participating schools in the project include University of Muhadmadiyah Prof.
Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA) and Ganesha University of Education (UNDIKSHA) of
Indonesia and Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU) and ValayaAlongkorn Rajabhat
University (VRU) of Thailand. Nine student-teachers from these universities will be
deployed to the main campus, particularly Science High School and Child Development
Center (CDC) and satellite campuses like Naic, Rosario and Silang to teach their field of
specialization in English, Math, Science and Childhood Education.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ma. Soledad M. Lising, director for International and Local
Collaboration and Linkages Office, ensured the safety of the participants during their
stay in the university and reminded them to enjoy their experience in the Philippines.
The deans and directors including the Vice President for Research and Extension,
Dr. Ruel M. Mojica and the Vice President for Planning and Development, Dr. Leyma L.
Cero also attended the program that concluded a campus tour and orientation meeting
with the cooperating teachers and principals about the SEATEacher Project.
