Dr. Ma. Cynthia R. Dela Cruz, researcher and CvSU-Imus campus administrator, presented the developments in a research partnership with the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB), University of Eastern Philippines and the Bureau of Animal Industry as she joined the Newton Fund Swine and Poultry Interim Workshop in Bracknell, UK last January 13-15, 2020.

The project entitled “Low-cost Portable Molecular Diagnostic Platform for Rapid Detection of Select Poultry Pathogens (LMDP) in Bicol, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA Regions of the Philippines” is a Newton Fund/DA-Biotech Project that works as a component of a bigger LMDP-related project tie-up with UK universities such as Brunel University London, Lancaster University, and University of Surrey.

With Dr. Dela Cruz are UK fellows namely Prof. Wamadeva Balachandran, principal investigator from Brunel University, and Dr. Roberto La Ragione of the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine; and Filipino scientists namely Dr. Dionisio G. Alvindia, Director of DA-Biotech and Dr. Dennis Umali from UPLB.

The United Kingdom Research and Innovation Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council organized the three-day workshop designed to tackle progress of Newton Fund projects in East and Southeast Asia.
