From a center to a summit, Cavite State University (CvSU) continues to partner with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – CALABARZON for the 2nd National Makapuno Summit to be conducted virtually this November 26 – 27, 2020.
With the theme “Empowering the Stakeholders of the Philippine Makapuno Industry Amidst the Pandemic”, the event aims to share various efforts that lead to the development of the makapuno industry in the country. Activities to be expected include presentation of makapuno-related research and development projects conducted in the last five years, showcase of makapuno-related products and technologies, networking among makapuno stakeholders from different sectors, a virtual tour of makapuno laboratories, and the e-launching of the tissue culture growth chamber for makapuno and coffee embryos.
Aiming for a more inclusive summit to be streamed on Facebook, target participants include makapuno farmers and processors, state universities and colleges and other private higher education institutions, national government agencies, non-government organizations, local government units and other interested private individuals. Hon. Fortunato T. Dela Peña, DOST secretary, will serve as the guest of honor for the said event.
Last 2019, the establishment of the region’s Makapuno Center at CvSU was granted by DOST-CALABARZON during the celebration of the Regional Science and Technology Week. Meanwhile, it was in 2013 when the 1st National Makapuno Summit was held in Lucban, Quezon gathering more than a hundred participants from various sectors with valuable contributions to the makapuno industry.
