The University’s Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS)-Placement Service Unit, in partnership with college placement coordinators, conducted the 2020 Pre-Employment Webinar on December 3,2020 with the theme “Landing on the Job in this New Normal: Ways to Make it Best”.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized that the activity is a good opportunity to listen to the experiences of the speakers and to capture ideas relevant to their chosen path which may serve as a guide to their future careers. Meanwhile, Dr. Hernando D. Robles, University President, inspired the students to enjoy the whole process as they work on being experts in their fields while remaining humble even after having a number of achievements.

The first topic entitled “Resumé Link- The Most Secured Resume” was delivered by Mr. Kim Chua, Managing Director of Jobs180.com. He discussed how to create and update a resume link through the said site that makes job application easier and more secured. He also mentioned tips on how to make the applicant’s profile stand out and effective in finding a career that matches the qualifications of the said graduate.

Meanwhile, the topic ““Preparing for Virtual Interviews” was discussed by Ms. Jane Sophia Sapit, HR Sourcing Assistant of Cognizant Technology Solutions. She taught the participants the difference between initial and final interviews. She also gave sample questions and dress codes that will help them in the process.  In addition, Ms. Sapit emphasized the importance of the Present-Past-Future formula in answering the question, “Tell me something about yourself” which is necessary to create a good impression to the employers.

The last topic on ““Basic Labor Rights and In Demand Occupations” was presented by Ms. Ruth E. Arevalo, Senior Labor and Employment Officer from Department of Labor and Employment – Cavite. She gave an orientation on the payment of wages and other benefits of an employee like_holiday pay, overtime pay and leaves provided in companies. She also discussed about the working hours and the deductions that are unauthorized by the law.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Sharon Isip, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, reminded everyone to consider the knowledge learned from the webinar and use them well to succeed in the future.

More than 500 graduating students attended the said virtual activity done thru Webex and streamed on the Facebook page of OSAS.
