The Cavite State University Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC) conducted a series of Webinars on Integrating a Gender-Sensitive Approach in Qualitative Research on August 24 and 31 and September 7 and 21, 2021 at 8:00 AM via Zoom Video Conferencing.

Dr. Miriam Baltazar, Director of Research and GAD Unit Head for Research welcomed all the participants to the webinar. Dr. Baltazar started off the session be levelling up the expectations of all the participants and resource speaker.

The first topic was Introduction of Qualitative Research and discussed by Prof. Girlie Nora A. Abrigo. The discussion focused on Social Research, Qualitative Research, and Designs. She also explained the Nature of Social Research and the different types such as Exploratory, Descriptive, and Explanatory. She highlighted the differences between Quantitative and Qualitative Research. She also explained the bases for selecting research approach, research problem, research questions, skills of the researcher, and access to the setting and participants.

On the 2nd day, Prof. Abrigo discussed how to write a research proposal using the research canvas. She gave emphasis on how to use the research canvas in developing the foundation of a qualitative research proposal and identify considerations in writing the different sections of a qualitative research proposal and know what the meaning of the problem is, purpose, research questions, and conceptual and theoretical framework. Dr. Mark Oliver Llangco on the other hand, discussed the topic Writing a Research Proposal using Research Canvas: Keeping U in T-rack.

On the 3rd day of the webinar, Dr. Llangco discussed the topic Collective Qualitative Data Remotely. He explains what Qualitative Research and Qualitative E-Research are. He emphasized the uses of zoom, email, Viber, Messenger, the Facebook group in Facebook. A qualitative survey via google form is the new learning readiness survey. He also discussed the topic of Engendering Equity and Ethics in Qualitative Research. He explains what gender equality and equity are and the difference between sex and gender. He also said that good social research should be fully ethical. There are 3 core ethical principles. These are respect for the person, concern for welfare, and justice.

The last day of the webinar was dedicated on evaluating the research proposals prepared by the participants. Dr. Melbourne R. Talactac, Vice President for Research and Extension welcomed the participants while Dr. Miriam D. Baltazar, Director of Research and GAD Unit Head for Research, delivered the closing remarks. Dr. Baltazar thanked GADRC and everyone for the successful webinar series; she also acknowledged the two speakers. (MDPAlmarez)
