As an offshoot of the visit of Cagayan State University officials, headed by its President Dr. Urdujah G. Alvarado, to Cavite State University on 22 December 2021, a team of coffee experts from the National Coffee, Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC) was sent to CSU on 11-13 January 2022 for coffee site assessment and training workshop.

The team conducted an assessment at CSU-Lallo coffee plantation to identify its current status, determine the suitability of growing coffee in the expansion area, and recommend interventions for the assessed coffee production sites. A training workshop on coffee production and processing at CSU-Gozaga Campus ensued the assessment.

Dr. Hernando D. Robles and Dr. Alvarado agreed to strengthen CSU’s Café Valena Project through CvSU’s mentorship. The said agreement is set to be formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement between the two institutions.

The team sent to CSU was composed of NCRDEC Director Engr. Gerry M. Castillo, Rodrigo H. Diloy, Antonette Jean L. Magcamit, Maowel A. Villanueva, Al Eugene L. Torres, Emaroce A. Fernandez, Ronald P. Peña, and Edgardo P. Silan.

Meanwhile, with Dr. Alvarado during the visit to CvSU were Dr. Junel B. Guzman (VP for Research, Development, and Extension), Prof. Josie Y. Bas-ong (Director for Extension), and Dr. Gilbert C. Magulod Jr. (Director for Knowledge and Technology Management).
