The CvSU Gender and Development Resource Center held a webinar titled Philippine Situation and Republic Act No. 11862 Otherwise known as the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022, on 05 December 2022, via Zoom video conferencing.

Dr. Susan G. Tan, GADRC Director welcomed and greeted all the participants on behalf of President Hernando D. Robles. She also gave a glimpse on human trafficking, its concerning issues, and trends.

Mr. Ray Andrew P. Villafuerte, Project Development Officer III and Secretariat of Regional Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Trafficking (RIACAT)-VAWC IV -A, discussed the human trafficking situation in the country and the salient features of the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022. He provided an overview of the government’s commitment to the elimination of human – trafficking, the provision of programs and services provided by DSWD for the recovery and reintegration of trafficked persons, and the promotion of culture of human rights to combat human trafficking in migration frontliners.

Dr. Melbourne R. Talactac, Vice President for Research and Extension, made the closing remarks expressing his deepest appreciation to the participants especially to Mr. Villafuerte who served as the resource speaker. He also said that the implementation of R.A. No. 11862 will provide tools for the authorities to restrain and penalize persons that commit acts of human trafficking. He also expressed his gratitude to GADRC and RIACAT for initiating a very timely discussion and assured that the university will be an active partner in promoting and upholding the rights of women and children.
