Shining through camaraderie and sportsmanship, Cavite State University has successfully conducted the University Games 2023 from June 13-17, 2023, hosted by the College of Economics, Management, and Development Studies (CEMDS) along with CvSU Imus Campus, and College of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (CSPEAR).
After four consecutive years since the last U-Games was held in 2018, the University has triumphantly defeated the threat of the pandemic in the sports sector through the CvSU Games which was participated in by the strong delegation composed of 22 participating teams from the 11 campuses and 11 colleges of CvSU, with the theme “CvSU Shines Through Sports”.
The historical event kickstarted through an opening program held on 13 June where teams paraded around the university and the program proper was held at the International Convention Center (ICON), graced by 32nd SEA Games Women’s Arnis Gold Medalist Ms. Charllote Ann P. Tolentino and 7th District of Cavite Representative, Hon. Crispin Diego “Ping” D. Remulla who served as guest speakers.
Warm commendation to the CvSU athletes for their unwavering commitment, passion, and dedication in their chosen disciplined was conveyed by the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) to the Office of the University President, Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, in her welcome remarks. She also acknowledged the efforts of the coaches, trainers, and supporters of the athletes who have nurtured them and guided them along the way, as well as expressed her gratitude to the hosts of the CvSU Games 2023.
In his inspirational message, Rep. Ping Remulla reminded the delegates that sports events are more than just chasing championships, it should be more about chasing learning. Meanwhile, Ms. Tolentino shared her inspiring journey before gaining the success she achieved today, especially before she became a SEA Games 2023 champion to motivate the CvSU athletes. She also added that the event is not about feelings but performance and reminded them that they are already a winner for those who believe in them.
The Lighting of Urn was led by Mr. Rhyne Caraquel, an athlete from CSPEAR, and ensued by the unfolding of Sports Banners of participating teams headed by their respective college deans and campus directors.
Headed by Ms. Alyssa L. Laylo, an athlete from CEMDS, the student-athletes took an Oath of Sportsmanship before the formal opening of games, announced by Dr. Nuestro which signaled the official start of the weeklong sports competitions in the Main Campus.
CvSU Hornets also energized the delegates and other attendees of the program through a unity cheer and showcased their breathtaking performance in cheer dancing through a special number.
CEMDS Dean, Dr. Mariel Mojica-Lising, delivered the closing remarks in which she looked forward to the success of the event as CEMDS served as the main host. She also acknowledged the efforts of the committee behind the historical U-Games 2023.
Sports competitions conducted during U-Games 2023 include basketball, badminton, volleyball, baseball, football, futsal, beach volleyball, table tennis, lawn tennis, arnis, sepak takraw, chess, swimming, taekwondo, karatedo, billiards, and dance sports. The STRASUC Culture and The Arts (CAF) Local Search 2023 was also conducted on June 14-15, in which winners will represent the University in STRASUC CAF 2023 regional competition in October.
