As a testament to its commitment to excellence in animal science education, Cavite State University (CvSU) students emerged as the Overall Champion and Hayop sa Galing sa Practical Exam in the 9th National Animal Science Quiz Contest (NASQC) held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), March 4-8.
Meinard V. Cucal, Abib C. Tantiangco, Zaira Marey L. Soriano, and Marie Ysabel N. Manzano from the College of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Natural Resources – Department of Animal Science (DAS) bested other aspiring animal scientists from 15 other universities and colleges nationwide. Central Luzon State University and Mindanao State secured the second and third spots, respectively.
Asst. Prof. Ma. Cecille B. Anuada, Mr. Karl Louisse D. Obispo, and the Department of Animal Science Faculty served as the coaches for the participating CvSU students.
With the theme “Feeding the Future: Charting the Path of Livestock and Poultry Industry to Innovative and Sustainable Food Systems,” the NASC is organized by the UP Animal Society in partnership with Chooks-to-Go and in collaboration with the UPLB College of Agriculture and Food Science and the Institute of Animal Science.
Aside from the quiz contest proper, the event also featured PatalASSan ng Galing, week-long exhibit, educational tour, the Animal Science Summit Convention (ASSCON), and extension seminars showcasing the advancements, research, and innovations in the animal science field.
