The Office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan conducted a Public Hearing for Proposed Ordinance No. 142-2024 or “An Ordinance Revising Provincial Ordinance No. 240, Otherwise Known as ‘The Revised Gender and Development Code of the Province of Cavite,’” on January 20, 2025, at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall, New Capitol Building, Trece Martires City.
Hon. Rommel R. Enriquez, Chair of the Committee on Social Services, Family, Women, Children and the Elderly, presided over the Public Hearing. He began by acknowledging all attendees and thanking them for their support in advancing Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives in the Province of Cavite.
In her welcome remarks, Hon. Irene P. Bencito, Vice Chair of the Committee on Social Services, Family, Women, Children & the Elderly, emphasized how the GAD Code of the Province of Cavite serves as a comprehensive framework to promote gender equality and ensure the protection of women’s rights within the province. She added that this revision reflects the province’s commitment to updating and strengthening its policies on gender and development.
Ms. Michelle F. Alcid, Provincial Board Secretary, presented Proposed Ordinance No. 142-2024 which highlights the province’s commitment to gender equality and the elimination of discrimination. The proposal includes proposed mechanisms to ensure women’s rights in areas such as health, education, employment, and political participation; and initiatives to address specific gender issues, and that resources, monitoring, and evaluation are in place to support GAD programs and activities.
According to the Office of Legal Services, the ordinance will undergo further review before being signed by the respective signatories.
