In pursuit of inclusive practices in education, the Cavite State University (CvSU) through the Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC) conducted a webinar titled “The Power of Inclusion: Building Equitable and Inclusive Learning Environments” on June 5, 2025, via Zoom and Facebook Live.
The webinar aims to enhance educators’ understanding of inclusive, gender-responsive education and how intersecting identities affect learners’ access and experiences; equip faculty with rights-based, inclusive teaching strategies that promote safe, respectful, and equitable classroom environments for all. It also seeks to promote awareness of legal mandates and institutional policies supporting inclusive education, such as the Magna Carta of Women and CHED gender policies; and encourage the integration of inclusive principles in curriculum, classroom practices, and assessments to affirm diversity and advance social justice.
Dr. India Frances Lane, Associate Dean and Professor of the University of Tennessee System – College of Veterinary Medicine discussed the first topic “Inclusive Teaching in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee Knoxville College of Veterinary Medicine”. Her presentation highlighted that inclusive teaching includes the way through which teaching is developed and carried out to promote learning and well- being of all students in the classroom– regardless of who they are, where the students come from, we promote fairness and inclusivity to all. She also emphasized that rapport, engagement, and learning influence the classroom inclusion. Since inclusivity inside the classroom will greatly impact the learning and engagement of the students, it is necessary that instructors, educators, or teachers are not only able to spot and identify unconscious biases but also mitigate these to promote fairness and inclusion.
The topic GNED 10 – Gender and Society was discussed by Ms. Darylvy Avila, a faculty member from the College of Arts and Sciences. She emphasized the critical importance of the course Gender and Society as platform for Inclusive Teaching as inclusive teaching is an approach of making the learning accessible to every learner. She explained that the diversity and inclusive teaching are important to amplify the learning when both are recognized. Through diversity and inclusive teaching inside the classroom, she said that we instill a sense of belongingness. She also mentioned that diverse classrooms can contribute to students’ emotional intelligence, improving empathy, and perspective to help them thrive on their career and profession.
