After the commendation as top performing state university for 2017, Cavite State University (CvSU) has marked another milestone as one of the faculty members from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) brought home with impressive accomplishments.
Dr. Melbourne R. Talactac, an associate professor of the University, finished Top 1 during the conferment of his degree in Doctor of Philosophy in Veterinary Science, major in Veterinary Virology at the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Yamaguchi University, Japan.
His studies allowed him to enjoy a scholarship grant in the said university from the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Research Scholarship that started in 2014 until he graduated recently, under the supervision of Prof. Tetsuya Tanaka.
Aside from being a presidential awardee of his batch, Dr. Talactac also received the Young Researcher Award (Best Oral Presentation), during the 160th Meeting of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Sciences, Kagoshima, Japan in September 2017 and the Best Oral Presentation at The United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Yamaguchi University Summer Seminar in August 2017.
While in Japan, he was able to publish 14 research papers in different Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) – indexed journals and produced one institutional Japanese patent. His expertise includes antiviral compounds, innate antiviral immunity, and tick-borne pathogens that inspired him to work on his scholarly feat titled, “Studies on the survival dynamics of tick-borne viruses in the hard tick Haemaphysalis longicornis and the effects of tick antimicrobial peptides on viral replication”.
Dr. Talactac earned his Master of Science in Veterinary Medicine, major in Preventive Medicine at Chungnam National University (CNU), Republic of Korea. Now he is back to renew his commitment, to share his expertise and to show his support to the University’s vision and mission of becoming a Global University in 2020. Congratulations!
