Cavite State University (CvSU), through its Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC), organized a two-day workshop titled “Gender Lens in Academia—Harmonizing Research and Extension Practices” on October 7-8, 2024, at the Technology Demonstration Farm in Indang, Cavite.
The workshop aimed to enhance the ability of CvSU faculty researchers, extensionists, and coordinators to integrate gender considerations into their academic and outreach activities, fostering a more gender-responsive research and extension culture.
The first day began with an overview of the workshop’s objectives by Ms. Maureen Cayzie A. Salazar, followed by a session on Gender and Development (GAD) concepts by Prof. King David J. Agreda. He discussed pressing gender issues such as economic marginalization, gender-based violence, and gender stereotyping, emphasizing the importance of gender analysis in addressing these issues. Prof. Agreda also introduced the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG), a key tool for ensuring gender-responsive project design and evaluation. Participants engaged in a hands-on activity where they applied the HGDG framework to prepared research papers, learning how to integrate gender considerations into their work.
On the second day, participants reviewed and presented their group work from Day 1, demonstrating how they applied the HGDG to various research papers. The session included a focus on technical fields, such as agriculture and aquaculture, where gender integration is often challenging. Participants learned how to apply gender analysis to these studies, showing that gender perspectives can enhance research across disciplines. The day also included a review of an Extension Service Proposal from Imus City Campus, further reinforcing the importance of gender integration in extension work.
The workshop concluded with a ceremony recognizing participants’ engagement. Dr. Agnes B. Alimboyuguen delivered the closing remarks where she emphasized the importance of continuing to apply gender-responsive practices in both research and extension activities.
Participants were awarded Certificates of Appreciation, marking a significant step in CvSU’s efforts to create a more inclusive and gender-responsive academic environment.
