The Cavite State University GAD Resource Center conducted a Webinar on Human Trafficking Awareness on July 12, 2021 at 8:00 AM via Video Conferencing. This webinar aimed to inform the general public that human trafficking exists.
Dr. Susan G. Tan, Director, GAD-RC delivered the opening remarks on behalf of the University President, Dr. Hernando D. Robles. Dr. Tan welcomed all participants of the webinar, she mentioned that the month of July is World Day Against Trafficking and our President Duterte declared every July as the National Anti-Trafficking in Person Awareness Month. Meanwhile, Mr. John Renz Emelo, GAD-RC staff, explained the objectives and house rules of the webinar.
Dr. Teresita R. Tolentino, faculty member from Cavite City Campus discussed the overview of human trafficking, global statistical data, traffickers/offenders, human trafficking in the Philippines, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, forced labor, other forms of exploitation especially to women and children. She also discussed RA 10364 – Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012, act to institute eliminate trafficking especially to women and children.
Ms. Joy Peji, faculty member from the College of Engineering and Information Technology explained Republic Act 9208 as amended by Republic Act 10364. She emphasized the ways on how to protect and support the victims and provide a penalty for the violation of traffickers.
Ms. Lei Ann B. Rupido, faculty member from College of Nursing discussed forms of trafficking, focus on labor and sex trafficking. She played a 4-minute video about the person who survived human trafficking and also tackled the real situation in the Philippines on Human Trafficking.
Ms. Sharon Isip, Dean of OSAS, delivered the closing message. She congratulated the organizer of the event, GADRC, and MOVE KATROPA. She also acknowledged resource speakers and participants of the webinar. (MDPAlmarez)
