In partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and Department of Education (DepEd), Dasmariñas City along with Farmer’s Information Technology Services (FITS) Center of Dasmariñas City, the Cavite State University College of Agriculture, Food, Environment, and Natural Resources (CAFENR) and Extension Services (ES) has launched an extension project dubbed as “Enhancement of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP) of Dasmariñas City, Cavite.”

GPP project is currently administering site assessments of school gardens of various schools in the said city. The CvSU-GPP Project Team firstly visited the 1st cluster of schools in Dasma. The second batch of school garden site assessments includes ten schools from Cluster II and Cluster VIII-B. The third round was conducted in the school gardens of Cluster V and the fourth site assessment was held at the sixth cluster of schools along with Clusters III and IV.

During the rapid assessment and interview, some of the topics discussed were general information about the school, the technologies applied and practiced in the field, as well as the tools and equipment to be used. Despite the difficulties being encountered by the school gardens, revealed during the initial assessment, the program coordinators still expressed their willingness to develop their Gulayan areas.

The GPP project of CvSU-ES and CAFENR aims to enhance and increase the productivity of 44 school gardens in the City of Dasmariñas by assessing their performance, identifying the necessary enhancements, capacitating the program coordinators and identifying their training needs, developing an action plan for improvements, formulating and implementing strategies on the utilization of the school garden products.

CvSU’s support for the said project was recognized by the City Schools Division of Dasmariñas by awarding a Certificate of Partnership. It can be recalled that on the 28th of February 2022, the GPP Project was launched and formalized by a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony virtually attended by Dr. Hernando D. Robles, University President; Dr. Miriam Baltazar, OIC Office of Vice President for Research and Extension (OVPRE); Dr. Leticia T.
