College of Criminal Justice

  • In 2005, the Department of Criminology was formally opened under the supervision of the College of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation. It offered the B.S. Criminology program.
  • In November 10, 2010, the Department of Criminology has been turned into College of Criminal Justice (CCJ) because of its distinct performance since 2005 with Dr. Myleen P. Legaspi as its first Dean.
  • In February 14, 2011, in accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act No. 7722, otherwise known  as the "Higher Education Act of 1994", and by virtue of Resolution No. 153-2000, Series of 2000, of the Commission en banc, Government Recognition No.011, Series of 2011 was granted to Cavite State University to conduct and operate the Bachelor of Science in Criminology course.
  • In April 18,2013, the college was granted Government permit No.015, Series of 2013 to offer 1st Year and 2nd Year Level of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Security Administration.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CRIMINOLOGY

 

The field of Criminology is a study of crime and the various agencies of justice as they operate and react to crime, criminals and victims.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The program aims to:

  1. Foster the values of leadership, integrity, accountability and responsibility while serving their fellowmen, community and country;
  2. Prepare the students for careers in crime prevention, law enforcement, scientific crime detection and correctional administration;
  3. Encourage research and inquiry on the nature, causes, treatment or punishment of criminal behavior and how criminal justice agencies respond to crime, criminals and victims.

 

CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION

The B.S. Criminology has a total of 191 units and takes 4 years to complete. The program is comprised of the General Education components, professional courses and practicum (On-the-Job Training and/or Community Immersion).

B.S. Criminology students will undergo internship or on-the-job training and community immersion for one (1) semester on the fourth year of the program.

A graduate of B.S. Criminology needs to pass the Criminologists Licensure Examination in order to practice as a criminologist in the Philippines. The examination is given by the Board of Criminology under the supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

OBJECTIVES

Based on the Memorandum Order promulgated by the CHED, the College of Criminal Justice thru its program B.S. Forensic Science  (BFSc for brevity) aims to:

  • provide the students with a thorough knowledge of the basic scientific crime investigation and detection;
  • provide the students with the adequate education and knowledge on the application of scientific principles and methodologies to legal problems and criminal investigations;
  • provide the students with the competencies and forensic skills at par with international standards; and
  • produce graduates equipped with the necessary forensic skills and expertise in aid of judicial processes.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

A graduate of Bachelor of Forensic Science is prepared for careers in:

  1. Scientific crime investigation;
  2. Law enforcement;
  3. Forensic science education;
  4. Foreign or international agencies e.g. United Nations (Department for Peace Keeping Forces) and European Union;
  5. Research / analysis / evaluation of forensic evidence in courts of law;

 This program also provides a good preparation for the study of Law and Medicine and for further forensic science specialization.
