Along with other awardees, Cavite State University (CvSU) was named as Top IP filer in patent during the virtual graduation ceremony for the 3rd Intellectual Property Master Class organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) last October 23, 2020.

The said Master Class was conducted as part of the Support to the University’s Strategies in Technology Acceleration Initiatives by Nurturing the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management Offices of the Consortia Member Agencies – Phase II (SUSTAIN IP-TBM Phase II) funded by DOST-PCAARRD and done in partnership with Association of PAQE Professionals (APP) and Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and  CvSU, with program leader Dr. Teddy Tepora.  Aside from being the lead agency for overall implementation of the program, Cavite State University is also the mentor agency for the member SUC’s of the  Southern Tagalog Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (STARRDEC)  under the project Sustaining CvSU’s IP-TBM Office and Enhancing IP-TBM Offices Among Member Agencies of STARRDEC.    Other mentor agencies in other regions include: Mariano Marcos State University (MSSU) for Ilocos Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILARRDEC), Bicol University (BU) for Bicol Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (BCAARRD), Capiz State University (CaPSU) for Western Visayas Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) , and University of South-Eastern Philippines (USeP) Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC).  Each region has five mentee agencies with two representatives in the IP Master Class.

Other awardees include Don Mariano Marcos State University (DMSSU)  as Top IP Filer in Utility Model, Dyle S. Legaspi from University of the Philippines – Mindanao (UP-M) as Mock Exam Topnotcher on Chemical Patenting, and James Andrew Q. Imperial from Rizal Technological University as Mock Exam Topnotcher on Mechanical Patenting.

This first virtual IP Master Class that was conducted from July to October was composed of five modules that cover topics on: Basics of Intellectual Property, Patent Search and Prior art search, claim drafting Invention Spotting and Technology Disclosure, Legal Bases, Difference between Novelty and Inventive Step, responding to formality examinations, IPOPHL Programs, Employing the Problem-and-Solution Approach, and Actual Cases and Sharing of Patent Agents’ Experiences.
