Cavite State University (CvSU) and the Local Government Unit of Tagaytay hosted the Luzon Qualifying Leg of the Philippine ROTC Games (PRG) 2023, September 17-23, in Indang, Cavite.

With the theme “Tibay at Galing Pagyamanin, Suportahan, Palarong ROTC Natin,” this event seeks to promote nationalism, sports development, and the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program.

Cadet athletes from ROTC units of participating colleges and universities in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Region I, Region II, Region III, Region IV CALABARZON, Region IV MIMAROPA, and Region V battled it out in arnis, athletics, basketball, boxing, esports, kickboxing, volleyball, and the search for Ms. ROTC 2023.  

The PRG is held in collaboration with the Office of Sen. Francis N. Tolentino, Department of National Defense (DND), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Among the officials who graced the Luzon leg are PRG proponent Sen. Tolentino, guests of honor Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” T. Go and Sen. Ronald “Bato” M. dela Rosa, Philippine Olympic Committee President and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” N. Tolentino, 2023 PRG National Organizing Committee Chairperson DND Asec. Henry A. Robinson Jr., DND Usec. Pablo M. Lorenzo, CHED Chairperson Prospero E. De Vera III, CHED Regional Director Dr. Virginia D. Akiate, PSC Chairperson Richard E. Bachmann, Cavite Vice Gov. Athena Bryana D. Tolentino, Tagaytay City Vice Mayor Agnes D. Tolentino, Indang Mayor Perfecto V. Fidel, CvSU President Dr. Hernando D. Robles, Maj. Gen. Romulo A. Manuel Jr., Maj. Gen. Elpidio B. Talja, Brig. Gen. Cerilo C. Balaoro Jr., Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong, Maj. Gen. Joel Alejandro S. Nacnac, Col. Ronald Jess S. Alcudia, and other AFP and university officials.   

Meanwhile, Filipino boxers and 2020 Summer Olympic medalists Carlo C. Paalam, Nesthy A. Petecio, and Eumir Felix delos Santos Marcial led the ceremonial lighting of the torch.

The PRG National Capital Region Leg will be held on October 8 to 14, 2023, while the national championships is scheduled on October 22 to 27, 2023 in Marikina City.
