The Cavite State University (CvSU), through the Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC), conducted a two-day training workshop on Inclusive Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management on September 27-28, 2023, aiming to establish certified ICBDRRM Community Trainers and official volunteers of the Center for Disaster Preparedness.

A series of 10-day training workshops were conducted on September 27 to October 1, 2022, November 16 to 18, 2022, and September 27 to 28, 2023, with 22 participants. Nine individuals successfully completed the workshops and obtained certification as Community Trainers for CvSU and the Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP) in Inclusive Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management.

The training included discussions on the previous year’s immersion experiences, with participants identifying successful aspects and areas for improvement. Topics covered included Adult Learning and Action Planning, emphasizing the importance of understanding community needs assessment and effective planning for disaster response.

The second day focused on Action Planning, where participants learned about tools such as Hazard and Resource Maps, Disaster Timeline/Seasonal Calendar, Early Warning System, and Rapid Damage Risk Assessment. The participants were divided into two (2) groups to strategize a three-day community immersion program in selected barangays in Cavite City, addressing logistics, registration, food arrangements, and training topics.

To conclude the two-day training workshop, Dr. Susan G. Tan delivered the closing remarks, stating that the three-day community immersion program in Cavite City would take place in October or November. Participants who completed the training were officially certified as ICBDRRM Community Trainers and recognized as volunteers of the Center for Disaster Preparedness. She further emphasized that Mayor Denver Chua of Cavite City had expressed his full support for the pilot training to be conducted in Cavite City. (JKRebutazo)
