The advantage of having a farm is not only that it can supply a family’s needs but it can also share the harvest to others especially during this time of crisis.
This is what the Science for the Convergence of Agriculture and Tourism (SciCAT) Project Team did this April 2020 in a series of distribution of fresh fruits harvested from Silan Agri Farm.
The first 188 ripe papaya were distributed to frontliners from the Philippine National Police (PNP) assigned in Barangay 1, staff of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Traffic Enforcers Unit, IATF Operations, and Engineering Office in Barangay 3, and those from the Rural Health Unit in Barangay 4, Indang, Cavite.
The second wave has distributed 101 fresh papaya to the frontliners in General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial (GEAM) Hospital in Trece Martires City, Cavite while the third wave benefitted 185 frontliners in the Public Market, Bureau of Fire Protection and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Indang, MV Santiago Medical Center in Trece Martires City, and City of General Trias Doctors Medical Center.
The fourth and last batch of fresh papaya was then given to a total of 97 frontliners assigned in Brgy. Bancod, Indang and those serving as guards and skeleton staff of Cavite State University.
Project SciCAT is funded by the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development implemented by CvSU in partnership with Agri Silan Farm in Indang.
