To raise awareness about the dimensions of human sexuality and prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, the Cavite State University (CvSU) Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC) held an activity entitled “Understanding SOGIE and Human Rights” on December 12, 2023, via Zoom Video Conferencing and Facebook Live.

Mx. Pent Elyria Dawn V. Liongson, an Independent Gender Specialist, provided a comprehensive presentation on the relationship between SOGIE and human rights, highlighting the challenges faced by individuals with diverse sexual orientation and gender identities, and emphasized significance of respecting and protecting their human rights.

The webinar also included a Brochure-making Contest, in which winners were recognized for their outstanding contributions. Ms. Mikaella Margarette D. Dichoso, CvSU Bacoor Campus, took first place; Ms. Shaine Maoui Fernandez, CvSU Silang Campus, won second place; and Ms. Lei Andrea H. De Guzman, CvSU Bacoor Campus, and Mr. Ralion Vincent E. Mosquera, CvSU Silang Campus, won third place. 

The webinar also featured the winners of the 2022 CvSU Search for Most Outstanding GAD Implementor, with CvSU Cavite City Campus winning the Gender-Responsive College/Campus/Unit award, and Mr. King David J. Agreda, GAD Coordinator of CvSU Cavite City Campus and CvSU MOVE KATROPA President, receiving the Most Outstanding GAD Advocate award.

On behalf of Ms. Sharon P. Mojica-Isip, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, Ms. Maria Czarina P. Sioco, In-Charge for Data Banking and Publication of GADRC, expressed gratitude to the speakers, participants, and organizers, emphasizing the significance of continued dialogue and action in promoting understanding and inclusivity.
